Outings & Campouts

Scouting Is Outing!

Attending outings and campouts are an important part of the scouting experience! Please see our resources below for information about going on campouts, summer camp, high adventure camp and more.

Trip Planning Resources

Troop 10 trips are a team effort. Scouts are responsible for helping plan the activities and meals, while adult leaders help with the logistics, transportation, safety, and other requirements needed to make each trip possible.

For Scouts

Patrol Trip Planning Checklist

Before each trip, every patrol should work together to complete the Patrol Trip Planning Checklist. This helps your patrol prepare for the trip, divide responsibilities, plan meals, and make sure you have the equipment you need.

The checklist should be completed at the troop meeting before the trip and reviewed with your Patrol Leader and other youth leaders as appropriate.

For Adults

How to Lead a Scout Trip

Organizing a troop trip is an important adult volunteer responsibility. If you are organizing a trip, please review How to Lead a Scout Trip for guidance on reservations, transportation, paperwork, adult leadership, communication, and other logistics.

Scout Trip FAQ for Parents

If your Scout is attending a troop trip—or is serving as the Grubmaster for a trip—the Scout Trip FAQ for Parents provides useful information about what to expect, what Scouts need to bring, meals, equipment, and other common questions.

Other Resources

Packing Lists

Use the troop’s Packing Lists to help determine what Scouts should bring on different types of trips. Remember that packing requirements can vary depending on the destination, season, weather, and planned activities.

Equipment Information

Our Equipment Information provides guidance on choosing and using camping equipment, including sleeping bags, sleeping pads, clothing, and equipment for staying warm during winter camping.

You don’t need to buy the most expensive equipment. If you’re unsure what your Scout needs, ask a troop leader before making a purchase.

Expense Reimbursment

Troop 10 Expense Reimbursement Policy

Troop 10 reimburses approved expenses incurred while supporting troop activities. Please keep all receipts and submit them with your reimbursement request.

Meal Expenses

Meal expenses are reimbursed based on the actual cost of food purchased. Food purchases should not exceed the following amounts per person, Scout or adult:

  • Breakfast: $4
  • Lunch: $5
  • Dinner: $6

Please plan meals carefully and make reasonable, economical choices when purchasing food for the troop.

Mileage

Mileage expenses may be reimbursed when you use your personal vehicle to transport Scouts as part of a Troop 10 trip.

Reimbursement is based on the calculated travel cost for the particular trip. Please contact the trip leader to find out the applicable travel cost.

If you are willing to do so, please consider donating your mileage reimbursement to Troop 10. Your contribution helps support the troop’s activities and equipment.

Other Expenses

Other approved expenses incurred for troop activities—including equipment, campsite reservations, permits, and similar costs—may be reimbursed at their actual cost.

Please obtain approval from the appropriate troop leader before making significant purchases on behalf of the troop.

Receipts

Please provide a receipt for all expenses submitted for reimbursement. Receipts may be:

  • Scanned and submitted electronically by email, or
